Unfortunately, lying, nepotism, lack of transparency, psychological pathology, law-breaking, and abuse of power are all deviant behaviors currently practiced by elected executive and legislative members of our government. Because of the extreme partisan culture fostered by the Republican party, normalizing such behavior has undermined our democracy and threatened its survival. Democrats are not above corruption, but as a party, they are proactive in rejecting caucus members who are found to be acting illegally or unethically. The problem with majority and minority leadership positions are the people who live in this office tend to have one goal; STAY ALONE in the pursuit of power at all costs. The problem with this objective is;

  • This changes the alliance from individual state constituencies to the agenda of party leaders
  • It creates a power-hungry, ego-competitive environment that shifts the focus away from the needs of the people to the political games of politicians.
  • This reduces the power of the individual votes of senators and congressmen
  • It gives power to one person to bill what is allowed to be introduced for discussion and voting
  • It increases the odds of corruption, placing the results of the rule on the mental health and character of one person.

The US Constitution says, “nothing is above the law.” However, due to Justice Department policy, presidents are considered impeachable while in office. Although most presidents do not suffer from dangerous psychological disorders, we have learned with the election of Donald Trump that a sociopathic narcissist can capture a part of the population that does not understand the danger posed by his personality traits and cares more about political power than democracy and decency. .

Some of the dangers of the policy of the DOJ that the sitting president cannot be criminally charged;

  • A potentially corrupt alliance compromises the national security of our enemies
  • Violation of the Constitution by the president changed democracy to autocracy
  • Damage to the country’s economic power due to corruption, abuse of financial power
  • Abuse of the military for political gain or revenge
  • Normalization and modeling of aberrant, criminal behavior for society and the potential to increase criminal behavior in the general population

Pardon the president It was designed to absolve people of their crimes if they had “‘paid their debt to society” and apologized, admitted their mistakes, and repented. Donald Trump is ignoring the pardon power by using it to free fellow criminals and political cronies. He signaled to criminals Paul Manifort and Roger Stone that he would forgive them if they remained faithful. Abuse of the pardon power can be used as a form of obstruction of justice in investigations against the president. Trump uses pardons to prevent people from flipping on him. Why would anyone be so scared if they have nothing to hide?

The release of tax returns by presidential candidates has become the norm. Doing so builds trust and transparency in those running for office. Since the 1970s, presidents have cut taxes. The problem with presidential tax returns started with Richard Nixon when it was discovered that Nixon only paid $800 on his $200,000 income. Nixon was reluctant to release his taxes, President Ford refused but, under pressure, released a summary of his returns, and President Jimmy Carter released his total returns. However, Donald Trump, the leader of lies, promised to do it but never did. The New York district attorney took the case to the Supreme Court, where, by a 7-2 vote, the court ruled that the president is not immune from exempting the tax if there is a legal reason to obtain it. Trump is often compared to Nixon because of his similar pattern of lying and corruption. Finally, after Trump appointed Attorney General William Barr, undermining and abusing the power of his office, it became clear that constraints must be put in place to control the corrupt political motivations of future AGs. Having Barr’s tenure become egregious, motivated by his belief in the supreme power of the president, his conduct in office was scrutinized by thousands of lawyers, the Bar Association in DC, and the American people.A new generation of members of Congress is laser-focused on re-evaluating loopholes in the Constitution that have allowed corruption to permeate our government, especially in the executive branch. These younger members of parliament, especially those in the Democratic party, are giving us hope to stop the type of corruption that Donald Trump has been perpetrating for years!
