Rep. Nancy Pelosi Gives Emotional Update On Husband Paul’s Health

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) bowed her head and paused before answering questions about how her husband, Paul Pelosi, was feeling nearly three months after a brutal attack on the couple’s home left him hospitalized.

“He’s fine. It’s going to take some time for him to get back to normal,” former House speaker Chris Wallace told CNN in a new interview, which was previewed Friday ahead of Sunday’s air date.

Wallace noted that Paul Pelosi has made several public appearances since the attack. He appeared in the audience Tuesday when President Joe Biden welcomed the Golden State Warriors to the White House in Washington, on the House floor in early January to open the 118th Congress, and in Statuary Hall in mid-December to unveil a portrait in honor of his wife.

“He’s been out a little bit because the doctor said he should be expecting,” Nancy Pelosi said, adding, “That’s it again, every day.”

In late October, 42-year-old David DePape was accused of breaking into Pelosis’ San Francisco home to look for the House speaker. Finally he swung at his wife with a hammer, hitting her head, right arm and hand.

Asked to elaborate on the nature of the lingering injuries, the congresswoman told Wallace that most of the superficial wounds had healed.

“Tendon, you know all that. But the head is different,” he said.

“Anyone who’s had a headache knows that you have to be careful. You have to be careful about movement. You have to be careful about light. You have to be careful about sound. And it just takes a while,” she said.

“It’s very tiring, but, you know…it might take another three or four months, according to the doctors, for him to be himself.”

Paul Pelosi was released from the hospital about a week after the attack.

Authorities said DePape had planned to kidnap the speaker, who was in Washington at the time.

“I’m very saddened by what happened, but even more saddened by the fact that the man was looking for me,” Nancy Pelosi told Wallace. “My beloved husband, who is not a politician, paid the price.”

DePape has entered two not guilty pleas related to the incident, one each in separate state and federal cases.
