A South Carolina Republican congressman has come under fire from his conservative colleagues because his views on abortion are not as extreme as the rest of the party.
“We need to find a middle ground on this issue, and I have a great pro-life voting record,” she said. “But some attitude [Republicans] has been taken, especially about rape and incest, protecting the life of the mother – it is extreme [that] center, independent voters, center right, center left, they cannot support us.
Mace’s so-called middle-of-the-road approach has been attacked by other conservatives, such as right-wing radio host Stew Peters, who began attacking his abortion appearance on Sunday, but apparently decided attacking his appearance would be a more professional way to address their differences. :
“Someone told @RepNancyMace that pro-life is never extreme. (You’d think someone who gets cosmetic surgery like her would be concerned about the treatment of Joan Rivers.)
Mace responded to the nasty tweet on Monday and pulled no punches:
“Ahhh yes, if you can’t defend your extremism, look at women’s looks.
As a rape victim, I will continue to fight for women who have been raped. I’m not OK with executing women who have had abortions, I want women to have access to birth control. Let’s start there…”
So far, Peter hasn’t responded to Mace’s return, but the others have.
