Get your taste buds ready because party season is upon us, with the Easter holidays just around the corner. And what better time to kick off Restaurant Week this year?

If you’re not familiar with this annual culinary event, it’s purpose is to promote local businesses. But it’s also an opportunity for foodies to experience a variety of dishes at a more affordable price, making it easy to try different restaurants during the event.

This international phenomenon was established in 1992 by Tim Zagat, the founder of Zagat Survey, an online platform that subjects restaurants to ratings by diners. Restaurant Week was created as a marketing strategy for these restaurants, but it also gives the public an opportunity to dine at discounted prices, so they can try more expensive food that they would not normally be able to afford.

Restaurants from South Africa, mainly in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, will participate in the event. These include Sejour in Houghton, Dusk in Stellenbosch and 9th Avenue Waterside, near Durban harbour.

Booking is required if you want to attend Restaurant Week, which will take place from March 31 to April 30.

Here’s how you can get involved

Click here to go to the event website. In the search bar, enter the name of the participating city or province for the restaurant you want to visit and select the restaurant of your choice from the available list.

Choose a place, choose a date and time, fill in the number of people who make a reservation for, click on the course you are interested in, fill in the details in the form that appears and click reserve. It’s that simple.
