CUTS International Head of Research, Isaac Yaw Obeng, said that the public should reduce alcohol consumption before driving so that the number of road accidents can be significantly reduced.
He explained that the fact is that high consumption of alcohol continues to cause road accidents in the country and the sooner it is dealt with, the better.
“The amount of alcohol that enters your blood will determine whether you can control yourself on the road. So, the more you drink, the more impaired you are, in terms of your nervous system, in terms of your ability to think and your capacity decreases when you drink too much. So , as part of our advocacy – and we double as a consumer protection agency that studies the issue of protecting people on the road, we think it’s wise to address this important issue.
“The problem is to reduce the alcohol content in the blood in order to reduce the number of road accidents,” he said.
Isaac Obeng disclosed this during the Journalists Platform for Road Safety Meeting organized by CUTS International in collaboration with the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) held in Accra.
According to CUTS International, the workshop is based on the fact that the media, over the years, has played a critical role in bringing issues of national concern by reporting and engaging with policy makers and governments to encourage targeted reforms. make the country better.
“The work of Journalists has led to the passage and amendment of several laws and policies that have deepened democratic government and social cohesion. By providing information on various social issues and human interests, journalists throughout the country have worked to bring about positive changes in the country mentioned.
“This meeting was held to build the capacity of journalists on road safety reporting, thus supporting the advocacy of policy changes, amendments and enforcement of various road traffic regulations to improve road safety and reduce road accidents,” said CUTS International.
