Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Sipho Nunens has revealed the real reason that saw Daniel Mudau slap teammate Charles Mothlohi in public.

The incident happened in 2001 after the cup final between Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs and left people shocked.
Mudau, who was captain of Sundowns at the time, slapped Mothlohi and was believed to have refused to accept the punishment.
“Mambush” later issued a public apology for what he deemed unsportsmanlike behavior. It also made Mudau a lot of hate at that time.
But Nunes said there was a different reason and people on Twitter are now singing a different song from Mudau.
“I was in France at the time. I wasn’t here,” Nunes said in a YouTube interview with TK Solutions. He was in France with the national junior team at the time.
“But when I got back, it was Charles himself who told me what had happened.
“You know what happens is when you have to take a penalty, Charles refuses and (Michael) Manzini has to go forward.
“But he was injured and he missed. That’s when Charles commented and said, ‘this Shangaan boy has paid the price’.
“That’s when Mambush (Mudau) was angry because he was in good condition to take the penalty but he refused.
“And now he’s saying, ‘This Shangaaan is precious’. That’s when he slapped me,” explained Nunes.
He said Mudau and Mothlohi spent some time not speaking after the incident until management intervened.

“He didn’t speak when I came back. It was management who called him to a meeting to resolve the issue.
Responding to the video on Twitter, @LEORNY3 said: “After hearing this all I can say is that Charles deserves a round of applause.”

Others also praised Mambush for having ‘disciplined’ Mothlohi for his cynical comments.
“Mambush did the right thing. Charles should have gotten 10 slaps, you can’t talk like that,” replied @TheBlackRock07.
Meanwhile, Nunes had great potential but fell by the wayside with off-field behavior that derailed his career.
