Real Madrid won the Club World Cup in the final by eight goals
Real Madrid beat Al-Hilal in the FIFA Club World Cup final by eight goals in Rabat to win the trophy for a record fifth time.
Vinicius Jr and Federico Valverde put European champions Real 2-0 up and Moussa Marega gave Al-Hilal hope before Vinicius set up Karim Benzema’s goal.
Valverde scored again and Luciano Vietto scored before Vinicius’ second.
Vietto spun in the box before firing in the second for 5-3 but Al-Hilal rarely looked like coming back.
Carlo Ancelotti’s Real added four cups from 2014 to 2018 – and ensured a European team has won 10 editions of the tournament.
They have defeated the Egyptian team Al Ahly 4-1 in the semi-finals, in the round of the European championship they will definitely enter the tournament.
Asian champions Al-Hilal, managed by former Oxford United boss Ramon Diaz, beat Brazil’s Flamengo in the semi-finals to become the first Saudi team to reach the final.
But despite a double from former Fulham striker Vietto, they could not become the first Asian side to lift the trophy.
Chelsea won last year’s final but could not defend it as only the continental champions – and the champions from the host country – were invited.
FIFA plans to change the format of the tournament from June 2025 to 32 teams and to be held every four years.
