Real Madrid kicked Liverpool out of the Champions League
Liverpool’s Champions League hopes ended at the hands of Real Madrid for the third season in a row as they failed to overcome the destruction of Anfield in the first leg.
The Reds, who lost the first leg 5-2, will line up with four strikers at the Bernabeu as they look to add to their illustrious European history.
But that was rarely seen on the cards and legendary real striker Karim Benzema made the tie beyond doubt when he headed in from Vinicius Jr’s cut-back at the end.
Jurgen Klopp’s team would have lost this game without Alisson.
The Reds keeper denied Vinicius and Eduardo Camavinga with excellent first-half stops.
Had Darwin Nunez taken the chance in the sixth minute, it might have been a different story.
Liverpool were beaten in the final against Real last summer, but now face a battle to even qualify for next season’s tournament, sitting six points behind the Champions League.
One of the downsides for Carlo Ancelotti’s Real is that Benzema picked up an injury while scoring a goal and had to be substituted, four days before the El Clasico must win against Barcelona.
