MANILA, Philippines – Remy Palma vowed that the Petro Gazz Angels will not stop working hard after earning a ticket to the semifinals of the 2023 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference.
Palma said getting back to the semifinals is just a stepping stone for the Angels as they remain hungry to make a deeper run this conference.
“Reaching semi is a stepping stone. We always talk about it every day [take it] one game at a time. And it’s up to us if we want more or we’ll let go of the opportunities that are given to us,” said Palma in Filipino after winning 25-15, 25-19, 22-25, 25-16 from well-run Akari on Saturday at the Philsports Arena.
“Our hard work must not stop. If we stop in the semi, all the hard work from the beginning will be for nothing,” he said.
Palma was one of five double goalscorers in Petro Gazz’s third straight win. He made a game-high three blocks to finish with 13 points.
The former Far Eastern University stalwart led the race for best blockers, with a total of 14 blocks, an average of 0.70 per set, before this game.
“The coach always reminds us that we have to have personal goals. So for me, I want to do my part and show what I can do. I don’t need to do anything good or anything. I just have to do my job,” said Palma. “Results will always follow. I have to do my part to help my teammates play well.
Palma and the Angels, who hold a 5-2 record, will look to end the elimination round on a high note against the Chery Tiggo Crossovers on Tuesday in Iloilo.
“We have reached the semi-finals but we have one game left and we want to win so we can carry the momentum to the semi-finals,” said Palma. “We are also going to Iloilo and this is our chance to give back to the fans there, by giving them a good match.”
“We will prepare harder because the level of competition is increasing so we have to be more prepared,” he said.
