PVL: Myla Pablo attributes season-best effort to Aby Maraño

MANILA, Philippines-Myla Pablo posted a season-high 27 points but she claimed a thrilling F2 Logistics win from Creamline.—a long-time undefeated team—for Aby Maraño’s leadership in the 2023 All-Filipino Premier Volleyball League Conference on Saturday before 6,765 fans at the Philsports Arena.

“My points come from everyone because we all work hard. We wouldn’t have won without my teammates, especially the team captain, eat Aby, who keeps reminding us: Atin ‘to,” said Pablo in Filipino after scoring 22 attacks and five blocks in 23-25, 25-18, 16. -25, 25-23, 16-14 victory over Creamline.

“When Aby came in, he increased his confidence on the court. He was our motivation. Our coach also always warned us not to play the Creamline game,” he said.

Maraño not only produced 14 points from 11 kills, but also kept the Cargo Movers in the lead despite losing two sets and trailing, 12-14, in the fifth.

“I only say three things. It’s ours. No one agrees. Inner strength. That’s repeated. Like repeated until I die,” said Maraño after the game.

Her motivational words worked well for F2 Logistics with Kianna Dy nailing important blocks on Tots Carlos and Ivy Lacsina delivering at the service line, including the game-clinching ace.

“We are communicating, me, Ara [Galang]and Kianna, to strengthen us [net] defense due to the same [Creamline’s] strong attack. When it’s important, you need to act immediately. It was effective even we were down by three points. We can do all the coach’s instructions,” Maraño said in Filipino.

After a frustrating loss to Chery Tiggo in straight sets last Thursday, the veteran middle blocker knows his teammates will bounce back and rise to the occasion against Creamline, who are tied at 3-1 in second place.

“Our last game against Chery, we weren’t ourselves. We failed to connect and didn’t communicate. We didn’t talk about it, we just trained,” said Maraño. “Our flow is automatic because our connections have been there for a long time on our team because most of us have been together since college.”

“Our coach and trainer Reg lit the fire in our team and motivated us by constantly reminding us what we are capable of,” he added.

With Cargo Movers defeating Cool Smashers in the second PVL clash, Marano was happy with the quality of the match.

“I think the game is of very high quality. Of course. The level of volleyball in the Philippines rises when this type of game is played in the PVL,” he said.

Pablo also enjoyed his first win against Creamline as part of F2 after failing to beat Creamline when he was with Petro Gazz two seasons ago.

“I’m happy to be part of this victory, playing for the championship team with F2 players. This is the first time I beat Creamline since I joined Petro Gazz. F2 got a winning game plan,” said the former PVL MVP.
