PVL: Bea de Leon ‘confident’ Choco Mucho can reach goal under new coach Dante Alinsunurin

MANILA, Philippines – Bea de Leon said the Choco Mucho Flying Titans have adapted well to the system of coach Dante Alinsunurin, a smooth tactician who has made an immediate impact with the new team ahead of the 2023 Premier Volleyball League Conference. .

“So far, I think he is adapting well. He is a quiet person but he teaches well,” De Leon told reporters. “Hopefully, little by little, this season we can do it. (We will get it.) [his system].)”

Alinsunurin admitted that the Flying Titans were initially surprised by his quiet attitude but he made sure his players will absorb the game plan and stay focused in every practice and game.

“Some people tell me that he is [players] they were surprised that I was always quiet in training. I only speak when I give instructions because as a coach, it is important for me to stay focused while you are working,” Alinsunurin said in Filipino.

With the legacy of the program and the set of players in Oliver Almadro for the past four years, Alinsunurin believes that he can bring success from men’s volleyball – multiple titles with the National University in the UAAP and the historic 2019 Asian Games silver medal – to the PVL.

But the multi-title coach is in no rush as he wants to establish a system with the Flying Titans first.

“I can take it but little by little. We won’t get it right away. What is important to me is that we can implement the system that I have given. I hope the result will be successful,” said Alinsunurin. (I can bring it [my winning tradition] but there was no instant success. The important thing now is that they will be able to implement my system. Hopefully, we will succeed.)

After failing to make it to the finals or even the podium in past seasons, De Leon believes he can finally achieve his goal under the guidance of Alinsunurin.

“I think, for this conference, we are always looking for a podium. And with our new coach, we are confident that we can get there [target] goal” said the star middle blocker, whose team reached the semifinals only twice in the past two Open Conferences but both came in fourth place.

Captain Choco Mucho admitted that his side needed more time to adapt to Alinsunurin’s system, but he is happy to see the team’s progress ahead of the season opener against Akari on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“Well, I think no one has enough time at this time. We start training the second half of December until the Christmas break. But again, it’s only Feb, and obviously, everyone rests during Christmas and New Year,” said De Leon. “I wish we had more time, but everyone is in the same boat. So, little by little, I think we can be together in training.
