MANILA, Philippines—Akari got its first win by defeating the Army-Black Mamba, 25-18, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19, in the All-Filipino Premier Volleyball League Conference Tuesday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
Dindin Santiago-Manabat led the Power Chargers, who improved to 1-3, with 23 points.
“We’ve felt it [the win] because every time, in our game, we keep saying that if we win one set, it will continue. We know, as a team, we will wake up when we get a set and that’s it [momentum] just keep going,” said Santiago-Manabat.
Akari’s breakthrough victory also sent the Lady Troopers to their 16th straight loss dating back to last year’s Invitationals elimination round.
Chiara Permentilla added 13 points while Ezra Madrigal scored 10 points for the Chargers.
With Army facing a 0-2 set deficit, Royse Tubino kept the Lady Troopers alive in the third set.
Tubino led Army with 20 points while Jeanette Villareal had 10.
The Lady Troopers fell to 0-3 in the conference.
Akari bounced back from a 23-25, 20-25, 14-25 loss to Cignal last Tuesday.
