The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has named Cyrus Johnson as its gubernatorial candidate in Ogun state, four months after the death of its former candidate, David Bamgbose.
Mr Bamgbose died after a brief illness in September.

The State Chairman of the party, Samson Okusanya, introduced Mr Johnson to journalists after a brief unveiling meeting held in Abeokuta.
Mr. Okusanya said Mr. Johnson, an accountant, has come out of the primary election monitored by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He said the PRP was popular enough to win the election “because we are already in all 236 districts.”
While talking to reporters, the PRP gubernatorial candidate promised to run a people-oriented government if elected.

“We want to open people-centred because whatever you do does not put the people first it’s just shadow boxing.
“In Ogun State, the first for us is agriculture, which will translate into food availability. We have to go past the stage where maize is only available one year, we have to put food on every table. When people are fed, they work and study well.
“Next is education. The current government has neglected education and everyone knows it. Under our government, education from elementary to junior high will be free, compulsory and qualitative,” he said.
