The Principal, King’s College Lagos, Mr. Andrew Ali Agada, has appealed to the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) to find ways of collaborating with sports partners to utilize and develop the talents discovered at the end of every sports competition in various schools.
According to him, the discovery and development of fresh talent in sports is the sure way to ensure that the country is placed on a higher pedestal in various games on the global stage.
Agada spoke on the sidelines of the 103rd inter-house sports competition in the campus. He said: “Let me use this opportunity to ask the Federal Ministry of Education to participate in the talent found at the end of each inter-house sport in each school and synergize with young friends and sports in order to use, train and develop them.
“Not everyone will go to university, not everyone will make a living from becoming a doctor, engineer or any other career, but from sports, they can. We have seen people reach the top through sports.
Agada noted that apart from the financial benefits, sports also promote teamwork, adding that when students work together, they are synergistic and progress, as it helps in time management. According to him, most of the events are scheduled and therefore, make sure that they also work on time.
He explained that sports always play a critical role in academics, because they can make students mentally alert.
“In fact, research shows that there is a positive relationship between sports and academic performance. Students also take the opportunity to relax because they can’t just teach and learn everything, without having time to play.
On his part, the former Minister of Planning and Transport, Kalu Idika Kalu, praised the college and the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) for the uniqueness of the game. Kalu, a senior boy of the college said that he was very happy and impressed with the various developments in the college and the organization of the sports event.
