Prince Harry to attend father’s coronation solo

Prince Harry will attend the coronation next month of his father, King Charles, a Buckingham Palace spokesman said on Wednesday.

Harry’s wife, Meghan, will remain in California with their children, a spokeswoman said.

The announcement ends speculation over whether the Queen’s youngest son will arrive after loud and stinging criticism of the royal family since she stepped down from royal duties in 2020.

Charles will be crowned next month in a ceremony full of pomp, pageantry and tradition that began 1,000 years ago, following the 70-year reign of his mother, Queen Elizabeth, who died in September.

“Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that The Duke of Sussex will attend the coronation service at Westminster Abbey on May 6,” a palace spokesman said.

“The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”

Book, miniseries revelation

Preparations for the event have been overshadowed in recent months by Harry’s revelations about his father and his brother, heir to the throne William, in a new memoir, a Netflix documentary and several TV interviews.

Asked in an interview in January if he would attend the coronation if invited, Harry said: “There’s a lot that can happen in between now. But the door is always open.”

Harry uses his book to reveal the friction in the family, including a heated argument with William. Spokesmen for King Charles and Prince William declined to comment.

Harry last month made a surprise appearance at a court hearing involving one of the lawsuits filed against a British tabloid. According to reports, he did not meet his father during the trip.

Charles’ coronation is expected to attract guests that include heads of state and foreign dignitaries.

The Canadian delegation that will attend the coronation has not yet been announced.

Jill Biden will lead the US delegation, with President Joe Biden accepting an invitation from Charles in a reported phone call last week to visit “in the near future.”
