Death of Princess Diana
Opening up about his mother’s fatal car crash, Harry revealed that he still has many questions about the tragic incident in 1997:
“There are many things that cannot be explained. I have been asked before whether I want to open another question. I don’t see the point at this stage. But I think who knows – again, this is the most amazing thing, in the last five years, especially two years ago, the number of people I met in America, everyone knew where he was. and what he did the night my mother died. And I never thought about it.”
Harry even drove past Alma Bridge tunnel in Paris, France, and asked to see pictures of the accident to better understand what happened the night of the car accident:
“I saw a photo of the reflection of all the paparazzi in the window together. I saw the back of the blonde, you know, slumped over the back of the chair.
Some more graphic photos of the scene were not included – something in it Advisable The CIO said he was “grateful” for:
“But I, I think, at that time, I’m looking, I’m looking, I’m looking for evidence that after what happened, it actually happened,” he said. “But I was also looking for the pain because at that time I was still very tired. It was, again, my body, my nervous system just stopped and said like, ‘Let’s go.'”
Despite feeling that there are many unanswered questions, the 38-year-old explained that he did not “really see the point” in opening up more questions years after the case.
Royal Exit
The loss shocked his mother – and concerned his wife Meghan MarkleLife – is part of the reason why the couple left their royal duties and moved from England. Harry explained that he was “back in time” when he was 12 and his father King Charles III to whom Princess Diana died:
“I go back to that time and try to remember as much as possible. You know, my father came in, dressed in a shirt and shared the news with me, only now as part of writing the book, I think about how many hours he was awake. And pity the love I have for him, as a parent who has to sit with him for hours, calling his friends, trying to figure out how I can hurt my two children.
He continued:
“I never wanted to be in that position, which is one of the reasons why we’re here now. I never wanted to be in that position. I didn’t want history to repeat itself. I didn’t want to be a single father. And I certainly don’t want to my children live without a mother or a father.
Prince William & Princess Catherine
Elsewhere in the interview, Harry directed Prince William and Princess Catherine AKA Kate Middletonsaid that there was “a lot of stereotyping going on, which I was wrong about, in the beginning” in relation to Meghan because of her acting career:
“Some of the things that my sister and my brother-in-law have done – some of the way they act or behave always felt to me as if unfortunately the stereotypes created a barrier for them, you know, to introduce or welcome them.
Bradby went on to ask Harry about the Prince and Princess of Wales and Meghan’s relationship, saying:
“But the impression was – that he was just – almost from the beginning, only he didn’t get it. Fair?”
When in Archwell The founders agreed, explaining that there were “many different reasons” behind why they did not agree:
“I have high hopes that, you know, it will be William and Kate and me and whoever. I thought the four of us would bring me and William closer together, we could go out and do work together, which I do a lot as a third wheel for them, it’s fun at times but also, I guess it’s a bit awkward at times as well. But, yes, I don’t think that they expect me to be in a relationship with someone like Meghan who has been very successful.
He continued:
“The reality behind my mind, and some of the things that my sister and my sister-in-law did, some of the ways they did or acted, I always feel as if unfortunately stereotypes cause some obstacles for them to really introduce or welcome them.
When pressed on what he meant, Harry replied:
“Well, an American actress, divorced, biracial, there – there are all different parts. But if you, like many of my family, if you read the press, the British tabloids at the same time as your life, then there is a tendency for you to live in a tabloid bubble instead of real facts.”
When asked if his older brother tried to stop him marrying Meghan, Harry insisted the 40-year-old “never did”:
“No, he never tried to dissuade me from marrying Megan, but he told me some concerns, very early on and said, you know, this is going to be very difficult for you. And to this day, I don’t understand what he was talking about. But maybe, you know, maybe he predicted what the reaction of the British press would be.
Beyond stereotyping, the father of two points out that the media is against Meghan and Catherine, which has caused many problems in the relationship:
“The idea of the four of us together has always been a hope for me. Before it was Meghan, whoever it was, I always hoped that the four of us would be able to move forward. But it quickly became Meghan versus Kate. And, when it’s played out publicly, you can’t hide it, can you? Especially when in my family you have newspapers posted in every palace and house there is. It creates this competition, and when you’re the new kid on the block and you come in and you steal the spotlight, not the spotlight which you request to be included or owned.
Accusations of racism:
Of course, Harry revealed one of the most talked about moments from his bombshell interview with Meghan with him. Oprah Winfrey in 2021: a racist comment from a family member. As you may recall, Meghan admitted in the conversation that there were some “concerns and conversations about darkness [Archie‘s] skin maybe when he was born.” The royals soon faced a racist backlash – and many people are guessing who made the problematic comments.
However, it looks like Harry is taking a bit of a step back as he refuses to call his family racist! When Bradby said “in the Oprah interview, you accused a family member of racism,” the prince quickly shot back:
“Not. The British press said so, didn’t they? Did Meghan ever say ‘she’s racist’?
Bradby said:
“He said that there was an offensive comment about the color of Archie’s skin. … Wouldn’t you describe that as fundamentally racist?”
Harry said he wouldn’t call the incident racist, “it doesn’t run in the family.” He continued:
“The difference between racism and unconscious bias… the two are different. If it is recognized or shown to you as an individual, if not as an institution, if you have unconscious bias, then you have the opportunity to learn and grow from it… if not, unconscious bias then moves into the category of racism.
Harry then referred to the racist incident at the palace Lady Susan Hussey who asked racist questions to the founder of the charity Sistah Space, Ngoni Fulani:
“What happened to Ngozi Fulani is an example of a very good environment in the institution, and why after the interview with Oprah, she said that she will bring the tsar of diversity. That has not happened. Everything that she said would happen did not happen. I am always open to wanting help them understand that part, and especially when you are a monarch, in-you have a responsibility and rightly people hold you to a higher standard than others.
Defending Against-all Memoirs
Undoubtedly, Prince Harry’s memoir will drive the wedge between him and the royal family deeper. But according to the palace, the book was not intended to hurt anyone:
“I love my father. I love my brother. I love my family. I always do. Nothing I have done in this book or anything else is intended to hurt or harm you. The truth is something that I have to rely on. And after years of lying about me and my family, there was a point where, you know, again, going back to the relationship between certain family members and the tabloid press, certain members have decided to get it. into bed with the devil, right? To rehabilitate the image.
He continued:
“If you have to do it, or you want to do it, you choose to do it. Well, that’s a choice. It’s up to you. But when the rehabilitation is at the expense of other people, me, other family members, then I draw the line.
Speaking about his reconciliation with the royals, Harry said:
“I want to stop. I want reconciliation. But first, there has to be some accountability. You can’t keep telling me I’m delusional and paranoid when all the evidence is piling up.
When asked how he would clean up the family’s dirty laundry, Harry replied, “it doesn’t have to come to this,” explaining:
“Well, there is a motto, a family motto, never complain, never explain. And what people have come to know now through the Netflix documentary and the many stories that have come out over the years is that it’s just a catchphrase. There are many complaints and there are many explanations. It’s been six years now and I’ve spent every year of those six years doing everything I could personally do for my family. And the saddest thing about it, Tom, is that it doesn’t have to be that way.
He added:
“I’ve been talking, writing letters, writing emails, and everything is just, no, you, this is not happening. You’re imagining it.’ And it’s really hard to do. And if it had stopped when I fled my home country with my wife and son fearing for our lives, then maybe this would have been different.
There is more to come as an interview 60 minutes and Good morning America will be released soon! Reaction to Harry’s confession, Perezcious readers? Let us know in the comments below!
