The National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has endorsed former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu to sail through the party’s incoming primaries for the Tamale South seat.
Asiedu Nketiah said the four-time member of parliament (MP) has become so strong in his constituency that he would be surprised if he was contested during the primary election later this year.
“The outgoing Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, he is very powerful in the constituency, almost uncontested. I doubt if anyone will compete with him,” Asiedu Nketiah told party faithful during a meeting in London last week.
The one-time Secretary-General addressed concerns that the January 23 change in party leadership in Parliament will affect some of the replaced leaders in the upcoming primaries.
“He will not be affected by the change, one of the people who was removed, Dr. Avedzi (former Deputy Minority Leader) will not go to Parliament again,” he explained.
In the case of Mohammed Muntaka-Mubarak, Asiedu Nketiah said that despite the new challenges faced, “we do not think that this change will affect our fortunes in any other way and therefore we feel that this is the best time to make these changes. .”
