PREMIER LEAGUE: Harry Kane impresses as Tottenham destroy Crystal Palace
Tottenham took Crystal Palace to the cleaners with a 4-0 victory that featured a superb second-half performance from Harry Kane
Antonio Conte needs a response from his Tottenham team after their insipid display against Brentford last time out. With fans starting to voice their displeasure, only a win against Crystal Palace could quell the upset.
Crystal Palace vs Tottenham first round
Antonio Conte has seen his men concede first in each of their last 10 games in all competitions, so they need a positive start against their London rivals here. However, for all of Spurs’ positive goals, they did little to worry Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita, who was delighted in the first half.
Hugo Lloris, who had been mistreated in Spurs’ latest defeat against Aston Villa, went some way to making amends by making a fine stop to deny Jordan Ayew’s powerful effort down the right. The first half ended 0-0 with room for improvement on both sides.
Crystal Palace vs Tottenham second round action
Tottenham recovered from another nervous breakdown to take the lead for the first time in 11 games. Kane became the goalscorer on his 300th PL appearance, rising high to head home from point-blank range after being found by Ivan Perisic’s cross.

The Tottenham centre-forward doubled his lead with trademark brilliance. Receiving a powerful pass from Bryan Gil, Kane’s touch was excellent to take the ball off his feet before slotting the ball into the far corner.
As Palace pushed forward, Spurs found plenty of space on the break and then scored a third goal to kill off the game. Kane made a run, teeing up Son Heung-min, but the Korean failed to work wide and instead met Matt Doherty who fired into the far corner.

Son then scored in just his second league game of the season, when he ran in behind Kane’s through ball to slot past Marc Guehi before slotting home to end an away day for Spurs.
