Michael Smith beat Gerwyn Price, Jonny Clayton, and Dimitri Van den Bergh to win in Glasgow; The 3Arena, Dublin hosts the fourth of the 17 individual venues on Thursday 23 February with the Play-Offs returning to The O2 in London on Thursday 25 May.

Michael Smith put his mark on Glasgow when he beat Dimitri Van den Bergh to win on Night Three of the Premier League.

Smith, who will need 16 weeks to register a Premier League victory in 2022, beat Gerwyn Price, Jonny Clayton and Van den Bergh to win his third in three weeks in 2023, joining Chris Dobey and Price with a win to their name.

The World Champion held off a spirited Van den Bergh as the Belgian fought back every time Smith took the lead, the Bullyboy eventually finding the crucial 13-dart leg and 144 finish to maintain control.

With the game at 5-4, Smith found an extra gear and showed the ability to grind out the game, taking out completely D10 for a 6-4 victory.

Michael Smith responded to beat Dimitri Van den Bergh on Night Three of the Premier League in Glasgow to secure his first win of the season

“At least I have to wait until week 16 to win.” said Smith.

“Apart from the Gezzy (Gerwyn Price) game, I felt good tonight.

“I had some dodgy legs in the doubles but everything else was great.

“I just want to win nights like this. I want to make the top four, I want to be in the Finals night, and I want to keep winning.

“I know if I play well, I can win the match.”

Earlier in the night, Smith showed class in the quarter-final victory over last week’s winner Price, three break throws plus a 115 finish helped the world No.1 over the line.

Michael Smith hit a 140 checkout to take a four to two lead over Dimitri Van den Bergh in the Premier League Night Three final in Glasgow

The St Helens men then had to show similar form to get past Clayton, a crucial break from the throw and a 122 finish brought the World Champions back in front before they sealed the final place in the D18 in the final leg decider.

Van den Bergh capped the night in Glasgow with a big win over hometown hero Peter Wright, some big finishes in trebles and a late break to throw in helped him win 6-4.

He then backed it up with a dominant semi-final display against Aspinall, two sensational 11-dart legs proving too much for the Stockport man to handle as Van den Bergh clearly relished the stage.

Michael van Gerwen hit back at Nathan Aspinall with an impressive 170 checkout in Glasgow

In Thursday’s other quarter-final, Aspinall held off Michael van Gerwen’s mid-match, including two 12-dart legs and a Big Fish finish, to eliminate the favourite, with Clayton’s hunt for some Premier League points finally up and running when he did. romped to an emphatic 6-1 victory in the match with Chris Dobey.
