Chris Dobey made a dream Premier League debut as he stunned defending champion and six-time champion Michael van Gerwen to win on the opening night in Belfast.
Dobey claimed his first major PDC title by winning the Masters in Milton Keynes which helped him gatecrash the player list for this year’s Premier League.
And the 32-year-old from Bedlington produced a Hollywood-style finish after defeating two-time former world champion Peter Wright in the quarter-finals and then sent Nathan Aspinall crashing out to reach the final where he upset the defending champion Van Gerwen.

Dobey took on Van Gerwen in the final with a score of 170
A captivating final, which saw Dobey receive 170 checkout in the second leg, went all the way to the deciding leg with Dobey landing a sensational 160 checkout to take home five league points.
“I’m dreaming,” said an elated Dobey, who is twice a Challenger in the 2020 and 2021 editions of the Premier League.
“Checkout 160 has to go because Michael is waiting at 127 and he can eliminate it.
“Michael got a good record for me, and it’s in your head, but I knew I could do it after beating him on TV for the first time in the European Championship.
“I know what I can do, and now my confidence is very high.
“I feel like I’ve earned my place in the tournament, I don’t have anything to prove myself, but I proved a few people wrong tonight.
“Now I feel it and I like it. I want to be here all the time.”

‘Hollywood’ produced this magical 160 in the decisive leg to win Night One
Van Gerwen took three league points after getting sweet revenge on Michael Smith in their first meeting since the World Championship final, and Dimitri Van den Bergh finished second in the embryo table.
The semi-final defeats of Aspinall and Van den Bergh left Belfast with two points each thanks to quarter-final wins over Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton.
