Prosecutor Gerrie Nel and his legal team are full of praise for the way the South African Police Service (Saps) has handled the Willem Kruger case so far.
The spokesman, Barry Bateman, confirmed that there was a meeting with Willem’s family on Friday.
“The family is officially asking for help with the investigation.”
Investigation: death of Willem Kruger
Bateman said he “will offer our support by opening the door to the police and the National Prosecuting Authority if they require our expertise.”
He said it is common knowledge that he has some former Scorpions, which Adv. Gerrie Nel was one, in the middle, to share his knowledge to help with the investigation.
Family is satisfied with the progress
Bateman also praised the police, and especially the investigating officer on the case, on behalf of the team for what they have done so far in the investigation of the case.
“The family is satisfied with how the case has been investigated so far,” he said.
He mentioned that if there were no criminal charges in the case, he would support the family in conducting an official investigation into the circumstances that led to his death.
“We hope to encourage the family to find closure with Mr. Kruger’s passing.”
Was Kruger murdered?
After a police spokesman said that an experienced police diving team spotted Willem’s bakkie in the Vaal River during the initial search, the questions now are:
If he is not in the river, where is he?
This only sharpened the speculation that has been rife for the past few weeks that “the bakkie was stored somewhere” and then taken to the river.
Is Willem Kruger’s body in the river?
Ever since his body was found, South Africans have been combing through the facts of his mysterious death.
Kruger went missing after attending a bachelor party for her friend, Ghini Greyling, near Henbase Lodge in Morgenzon, Mpumalanga.
However, some important elements have puzzled researchers. Many have questioned whether he drowned, or was killed elsewhere before his body was taken to the Vaal River.
Examples cited by skeptics: His Hilux keys were found inside the vehicle, but the handbrake was on, and the automatic gear lever was in Park mode.
