Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, Protem Secretary, National Coalition for Peace and Unity (NCPU), has asked Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege to accept peace.
Ojuogboh, the Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) made the call in an interview with journalists on Wednesday in Asaba while reacting to the results of the March 18 Governorship election in Delta.
He said APC members in Delta are concerned about the outcome of the election in the state.
The News Agency of Nigerian (NAN) reports that the Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Sheriff Oborevwori emerged the winner, defeating the APC candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as his closest competitor in the election.
Ojougboh, who blamed Omo-Agege for the party’s abysmal performance in the 2023 general election in the state, said the APC governorship aspirant undermined the leadership of the party in the state to acquire the party.
He said the poor outing, which saw the party win only four local government areas out of 25, was regrettable and called for the attention of APC National to intervene and restructure the party in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to Ojougboh, a former member of the House of Representatives and the only governorship candidate in the state, if the APC fails to save the state, the story will be the same in 2027.
“The party in the country is bleeding fast, which calls for the intervention of stakeholders including President Muhammadu Buhari, before he leaves office in May.”
The APC leader, who traced the origins of the party’s piracy, said the party at the national level is setting up a committee of 12 wise men and elders shortly before the state Congress in 2022.
According to him, Omo-Agege is one of the 12, and hijacked the party in Delta, went to the Ward and everywhere to unite the list of delegates.
“We are protesting to the high heavens, he did not say that the acting national chairman, has blessed him (Omo-Agege) as the candidate of the party.
“We told him that the man could not win the election, he did not believe, therefore, we kept silent.
“But today, you have seen the results, thank God because it has been proven that this man is not a problem in Delta politics.”
Ojougboh, added, “as it is now, we need someone who can win the election and can save power from the PDP in the country.
“The second time he went to the Senate, through the courts.
“He said he knows his way through the court that he will give victory and he will become the governor of Delta like what happened in Imo state.
“Things have changed and young people have spoken. I can assure you that this time the court will look into the matter seriously.
“Four years is not a very long time. If we start today again, the party should be given back to the owners in the country.
The APC chieftain, also advised the members of the Senate to give way to the South East to produce the next senate president for fairness and justice.
“You know the cry from the south east that they have been marginalized.
“So, the only thing that can be used to cheer is to give the president of the Senate.
“They have a good candidate like Orji Uzor Kalu. If you give Orji Uzor Kalu as Senate president, he will be able to work with the President-Elect, Sen. Bola Tinubu properly and with the people of the north. He is a friend of many people. He will be able to control the problems that will arise
from the election,” said Ojougboh.
