Polkadot is one blockchain that has not recently been associated with entertainment and sports coverage on Bitcoinist. Blockchains like Polygon, Solana, Tezos and Avalanche (among others) have taken a very cultural or creative-first approach in various ways, but Polkadot – despite being the 20 most consistent player – has rarely been in the dialogue recently.
That wave may be in the middle as the chain announced a new partnership with electronic music powerhouse Beatport this week.
The two parties will collaborate on a new on-chain electronic music platform. Let’s take a look at the details we know so far.
Beatport Meets Polkadot
Beatport and Polkadot launched Beatport.io, which is now a landing page leading to the waiting list. When the platform goes live, it aims to be a platform that will allow “artists, producers, and record labels to enjoy the benefits of Web3, and also give music fans the opportunity to explore the value of their digital collections and deepen their relationship with their favorite artists and DJs,” according to byline in the press release available to Bitcoinist.
In addition to building this music-based platform, the two partners will also work on the activation of congruent live events, with the goal of 10 events in the next half year; each event will appear to celebrate the new NFT collection on the platform.
Beatport has been a staple in the DJ community for nearly two decades, carrying a catalog of 16M+ tracks and a record label network spanning nearly 100K labels. Beatport taps into the community through streaming, plugins, sound packs and more – all areas conducive to today’s web3 landscape.

On-Chain: Music, Entertainment, and General Culture
Polkadot has been on hiatus until 2023, and this move marks the chain’s first step into a music and culture vertical of this size and scale. Earlier in the year, we saw Polkadot-based Astar Network host a hackathon that featured Japan’s Toyota Motor Corporation as a sponsor. Otherwise, it’s been a quiet year for our corporate and cultural partners, and this latest story is certainly a shocker for Polkadot.
Elsewhere in crypto and music, we have seen the web2 music monster Spotify dip its toes in the sand, Warner Music Group partners with OpenSea, and blockchain has even been aggressive in building this vertical as well: VAULT is a new platform in the works of the co-founder of sports Betting platform FanDuel, which was built in Solana, and ChartStars based on the flow of work with Billboard and Universal Music Group.
Can web3 change the way we interact with music? Many projects in many chains are executed precisely.
