Democratic strategist Chai Komanduri compared the GOP leadership’s efforts to “make MAGA happen” to a character in the hit movie “Mean Girls” who tried to popularize the slang term “fetch.”
“It looks like the GOP leadership is still Trumpy and into MAGA,” Komanduri told Ari Melber on MSNBC on Tuesday, pointing to former Trump White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ Republican objection to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address.
“They’re trying to make MAGA use the famous phrase from ‘Mean Girls,'” Komanduri said before Sanders’ address.
“I’ve never heard a direct comparison of ‘taking,’ which they try to do aggressively like the slang in ‘Mean Girls,’ and the whole MAGA movement,” Melber replied. “I think ‘take’, while not a good piece of slang, might be less dangerous to democracy, Chai.”
“I agree, but I think it’s a horrible slang word and I think Regina George is right to make sure it never happens,” Komanduri replied.
