The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Ari-Mohammed Ali, has warned politicians in the state not to stir up trouble during the upcoming governorship and House of Assembly elections.
Mr. Ali gave a warning in a meeting with some members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) in Patani Local Government Area of the state on Friday.
The meeting was a sequel to a petition by the APC, accusing some PDP leaders of acting in a manner that could lead to the breakdown of law and order.
Mr. Ali advised the politicians to conduct peaceful elections by maintaining peace in the region.
The commissioner was represented by the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Patani Police Division, Tobi Debakeme, the police chief.
“Elections are an opportunity for voters to exercise their franchise in a peaceful atmosphere and not call for violence,” he told the party’s leaders.
Mr. Ali assured that the police would send personnel to Patani to maintain law and order during the election.
He reminded all the candidates in the upcoming election that they should be required to sign a contract of good behavior.

The commissioner warned that anyone breaking the law would be arrested and prosecuted.
