The Nigerian police force has lost an officer during a mission to rescue the President of Edo Regional Customary Court, Precious Aigbonoga.
Aigbonoga was abducted in Edo State, on Monday, January 9 around Ugoneki area on his way to Igueben Local Government Area where he is the president of a customary court in Igueben area.
The spokesperson of the state police command, Chidi Nwabuzor, in a statement on Thursday confirmed the rescue of Aigbonoga rescuers and disclosed that a police officer also died during the operation.
However, the police did not reveal the identity of the deceased officer.
Nwabuzor added that the rescue mission of Aigbonoga was a joint force between military and police agents at Scorpion Hill inside the forest where he was detained.
Meanwhile, the publicity secretary of the executive committee of the Nigerian Bar Association in Benin, Festus Usiobaifo, said that the chairman of the committee, Nosa Edo-Osagie, commiserated with the security agencies over the loss of their colleagues and also commended them for their quick response.
