Police neutralise two gunrunners in Zamfara, recover arms | The Guardian Nigeria News

Police in Zamfara neutralized two gunmen on Anka-Gummi Highway on Sunday as they attempted to deliver weapons to the terrorist camp.

The police spokesman in the state, SP Muhammad Shehu, said on Sunday that the gunmen brought sophisticated weapons and ammunition from Taraba.

He added that a Toyota Corolla car was recovered from the suspect.

The vehicle contained three Rocket Propeller Gun bullets, three explosives, 151 rounds of ammunition for an AK 47 rifle, 200 rounds of ammunition for an anti-aircraft gun and various talismans.

“On January 7, a police tactical operation successfully neutralized two gunmen on Gummi-Anka Road in an extensive gunfight that lasted for several hours.

“The operation followed intelligence received on the movement of the suspects inside a Toyota Corolla vehicle loaded with weapons from Taraba en-route terrorist camp in Zamfara.

“Two of the suspects were fatally wounded while the other escaped into the bush with gunshot wounds.

“The injured suspect was taken to Yariman Bakura Gusau Specialist Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by doctors.

“A spot search by the operatives led to arms and ammunition.

“In addition, joint police/vigilante operatives were sent to the location for a strict confidence-building patrol aimed at apprehending the fleeing suspects,” Shehu stated.

He quoted the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Kolo Yusuf, as an assurance of the commitment of the police to rid Zamfara of terrorists and other criminals.
