The Police Command in Zamfara has announced the arrest of two persons who delivered 325 rounds of ammunition along the Gusau-Wanke-Dansadau road in the state.
Command Public Relation Officer, Mohammed Shehu said in a statement in Gusau, Tuesday that the suspect was arrested on January 8, at about 23:00 by the police tactical team.
He said the suspects, Emmanuel Emmanuel and Nana Ibrahim, were in possession of 325 bullets and one magazine of an AK 47 rifle.
Shehu said the arrest was a sequel to intelligence information he received about weapons being supplied from Benue to bandit camps in Zamfara.
According to him, the suspects were arrested through a stop and search operation mounted by the police tactical team.
He added that the suspects during interrogation, allegedly confessed to have been involved in some gun business for bandits in Zamfara forest and neighboring states.
A spokesman for the command said investigations would continue in order to arrest the suspects’ collaborators and charge them to court.
Shehu said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Kolo Yusuf has assured that the command will continue to protect lives and property and asked for the support of the people.
