Police Grab Helicopter To Fight Criminals
The Ghana Police Service has deployed three helicopters to augment its work.
It is made up of two gazelle light attack helicopters and one Airbus 350 helicopter.
In addition, the police took three mini-boats to assist the marine police in crime prevention in the area of marine patrol.
This comes after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo presented 100 pick-up vehicles, 600 motorcycles, and six Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) vehicles to the Police Service.
Furthermore, the President also commissioned the Police Headquarters project which was recently given a facelift.
It should be recalled that two years ago, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced at the Police College graduation ceremony the procurement of helicopters.
He said the hangar for the helicopter, which is at the National Police Training School, has been completed and the six officers, who will fly the helicopter, “have completed their training in South Africa”.
Mr. Akufo-Addo made the announcement while attending the graduation ceremony of the 50th cadet officer course in Accra on Friday, October 1, 2021.
President Akufo-Addo promised to buy helicopters for the police in his 2018 state of the nation address.
“Since I came to office in January 2017, a total of 568 vehicles including 15 operational buses have been presented by the government for Service, an unprecedented achievement in its history,” said the president.
Apart from the Formed Police Unit based in Accra, the president said “an additional 22 light armored vehicles have been purchased for use by the FPU to be established in November in the Northern, Upper East and Ashanti Regions”.
“Within the next year and a half, FPUs will be established in other areas that do not have FPUs,” he promised.
In addition, the President said that the Police Service and other security agencies will deal with criminals in the country.
“I know the recent incidents of violent crimes in some parts of the country have generated safety and security concerns from some parts of the populace”, Mr. Akufo-Addo said.
The Police Service has benefited greatly after the presidency of Akufo-Addo.
Recently, in the first term of his office, the president of the president of several saloon cars and pick to the police to aid in crime fighting operations.
They further provided weapons and other vehicles to the Service.
