Police declare NYSC member wanted for alleged criminal activities

The police Anambra StateSouth-eastern Nigeria, has declared a member of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is wanted for allegedly committing various offenses in the country.

The police spokesperson in the state, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

A member of the corps, Nnamdi Emeh, is accused of illegal possession of firearms and money laundering.

Mr. Emeh, 26, was also charged with fraud, impersonation and defamation of character.

The police, however, did not reveal when and how the corps member was allegedly involved in the offence.

Mr. Ikenga, the deputy superintendent of police, said only that members of the corps were “positively identified/mentioned” in the investigation carried out by the police in Anambra State.

Members of the corps are attached to police commands in the country, where they perform mandatory national service, police said.

A police spokesperson asked residents to report to the police if they see members of the wanted corps around the neighborhood so that they can be arrested immediately.

He assured that the identity of those who reported the whereabouts of the corps members would be protected by the police.

The NYSC is a program established by the Nigerian government in May 1973 as a means of reconciliation, reconstruction and rebuilding of the country after the bloody civil war between 1967 and 1970.

It is designed primarily to encourage the development of common relations among Nigerian youths of various tribes as well as to promote national unity.
