At Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of three Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) as Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG).
A statement by Ikechukwu Ani, PSC’s head of press and public relations on Sunday in Abuja, said the commission delayed the promotion of 19 senior officers.
He said the senior officers who were suspended for not appearing for interviews were eight commissioners of police (CP) and 11 assistant commissioners of police (ACP).
Mr. Ani said the new DIG was appointed to fill the vacant position created by the retirement of three DIGs representing the North-central, North-East and North-west geopolitical zones.
He said the appointment was to ensure that the established succession policy in the Nigeria Police was implemented.
The PSC spokesperson said the newly appointed DIG is Hafiz Inuwa, the Force Secretary to replace Mustapha Dan-Daura after his retirement in the north-west.
He said Aji Janga will replace Zanna Ibrahim in the North-East, while Adeleke Bode will replace Sanusi Lemu in the North-Central.
Mr. Ani said the new appointment was part of the decision of the resumed 18th Plenary Meeting of the Commission presided over by the Acting Chairman, Clara Ogunbiyi.

It said the commission also postponed the promotion of eight CPs to the rank of AIG and 11 deputy commissioners of police (DCP) to the next rank of CP.
He said the suspension followed the failure of the officers to appear before the commission for mandatory promotional interviews.
According to him, the commission had earlier sent an invitation to the officials to appear ahead for regular interaction to ensure their suitability and capability for the new Office.
He said the commission was shocked by its failure to honor the invitation.

Mr. Ani said that the commission has approved the promotion of 10 ACP to DCP, 17 Chief of Police (CSP) to ACP and 301 Superintendent of Police (SP) to Chief of Police (CSP).
He said that 47 deputy superintendents of police (DSP) who were released from the previous recommendation to the commission were also appointed as SPs.
A PSC spokesperson said that 665 assistant superintendents of police (ASPs) were promoted as DSPs.

He said the recommendations for Nwamanna Nelson, ACP, Elias Casmir, SP and Alheri Mamman, SP were also approved.
Mr. Ani said that the officers were promoted after being released from the Pending Disciplinary Case (PDM).
He said Mrs. Ogunbiyi charged the newly promoted officials to give their best to serve the country especially, before the general election.
