The police have arrested a suspect in the gruesome murder of a former official Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Kehinde Fatinoye, and her husband Bukola on New Year’s Day in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The police spokesperson in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said investigations are underway to unravel the killers and their motives.
Mr. Oyeyemi confirmed the incident as a case of suspected murder.
“It is true that a couple was killed and burnt in their house in Abeokuta, shortly after returning from the Cross Over Service.
“This is a clear case of murder and we will leave no stone unturned to unmask those behind the murder.
“A person has been arrested by our operatives in connection with the incident. We will get to the root of the matter, as the investigation has started.

“The incident happened just after 12am.” said Mr. Oyeyemi.
PREMIUM TIMES already earlier it was reported how the couple died in a mysterious fire. Police further confirmed the incident as a case of murder.

Background
In the early hours of Sunday, unknown assailants broke into the couple’s home, killed both of them and set the bodies on fire.
While her husband was working with the CBN, his wife until her death was the principal secret secretary at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).
The New Year’s tragedy occurred in the Ibara residence, a place of choice for many influential people in the country.
The house where the couple was killed is less than one kilometer from the presidential lodge where Governor Dapo Abiodun has been since taking office.

The building is also not far from the house of the current governor of Ogun central district, Ibikunle Amosun.
A source, who did not want to be named for security reasons, said the couple’s son and maid were also taken away.
When our reporter visited the house, there were many sympathizers.

Reacting to the incident, FUNAAB spokesperson, Kola Adepoju, described the couple’s death as a ‘horrible and rude shock’ to the university community.
Mr. Adepoju, while delivering a message from the vice chancellor of the university, Olusola Kehinde, called on “security agencies to bring “the perpetrators of dastardly acts to justice as soon as possible.”
A cousin of the late Mr. Fatinoye, Ambrose Somide, said he could not find out who was responsible for the misdeed.
