A police intelligence operation led to the arrest of three suspects for their involvement in a mobile money robbery in Kasoa on December 20, 2022.

Police investigations have so far revealed that the suspects, armed with a pump-action gun hidden in a baby diaper sack, attacked and shot a mobile money merchant, in his business center.

“The suspects were heartless as the victim tried to save her life, they chased her, shot her from behind and robbed her of an unspecified amount of money,” police added in a statement.

A tough investigation and intelligence operation by the police led to the crackdown and arrest of the suspects, Michael Otu, alias Rider, Godfred Okine and Asaa Faisal alias Commandant, who have been described by other suspects as the mastermind behind it. robbery and provide gangs with weapons.

The suspect, Godfred Okine, according to the police, later complained of pain and was taken to hospital but died while receiving medical attention.

His body has been placed in the mortuary of the Police Hospital for preservation and autopsy.

An initial investigation into the death by the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) determined that the deceased suspect was handled professionally by officers from the time he was taken into custody until his death.

PPSB has also been in contact with the family of the deceased suspect as part of the investigation.

The other two suspects, Michael Otu and Asaa Faisal were arraigned in Ofaakor District Court on December 29, 2022, and remanded in police custody to appear in court on January 12, 2023.

The injured victim is being treated and is in stable condition.

Meanwhile, efforts are underway to arrest another suspect who is on the run.
