Photos Of Holocaust Survivors Show How They Live Now

To commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Royal Photographic Society (RPS) in Bristol opened. Generations: Portraits of Holocaust Survivorsa partnership project featuring 50 photographs from various survivors around the world.

“The exhibition will open in 2020 with 75 portraits to mark the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz,” said Tracy Marshall-Grant, RPS Project Curator, via email. When the UK went into the first national lockdown like other countries in March 2020, the exhibition was renewed and postponed until this year.

Opening on Thursday, the show features images taken by 13 different photographers, including one taken by Kate Middleton aka Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge. RPS works with partners including the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust to pair survivors and their families with photographers. Each photographer is encouraged to treat the project as his or her own, producing photographs in a different style.
