Presidential candidate from Labor PartyPeter Obi, said he has an idea that will fix Nigeria, the elected president.
However, he says his ambitions are not fueled by desperation.
Mr. Obi who spoke during an interaction with journalists in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, blamed bad leadership for insecurity in the state.
Mr. Obi also visited the Emir of Damaturu, Shehu Hashimi, and members of the Emirate Council of the city.
“I have repeatedly said that I am not desperate to rule Nigeria, what I want is to see a Nigeria that works. A Nigeria that cares for the poor in this country. I believe that only we can offer that for Nigeria because we are committed to the poor. We have ideas on what can be done to eradicate poverty in Nigeria.
“Look at a country like Yobe, it should be one of the countries that strives because it is based on agriculture. This is a country that should attract great support for the agricultural revolution that will lead to industrialization and exports that will be a win-win situation for everyone. This will pull people out of poverty and that is our commitment,” said Mr. Peter Obi.
Speaking on the widespread insecurity in the country, Mr. Obi said: “The enemy is not more fearsome but because of the lack of leadership. We will tackle the insecurity by making sure that we give it all the attention it needs but at the same time we can pull people out out of poverty. The more you pull people out of poverty, the more you address insecurity.”
He decried the state of insecurity in the country and how the current government has neglected the general public, while promising to reverse the trajectory when elected president on February 25, 2023.
Yobe, he said, would become an agricultural exporting state in the country because his government would invest heavily in agriculture.
“We are here because we don’t want any country to say we have been abandoned. We planned a rally in Damaturu but due to the suffering of lack of fuel and cash in the country, we decided not to add to the suffering of the people so we will only use you as a point of contact for the people of the country.
“Our journey is that a new Nigeria is possible. We want to build a Nigeria where everyone will be happy to say they are Nigerians. It doesn’t matter where you come from, east, west, north or south.
“In the last ten years, all Nigeria has done is insecurity, poverty, misery, youth unemployment, and children out of school. That is what we bread and what we want to reverse. We bring a message of hope that we will build a country that will be safe. A country where people can go out freely. I told my brother Datti how I came to Damaturu for Maiduguri in an Airport Taxi to visit my last colleague who is the governor here. But when people tell me not to come to Damaturu to campaign because it is not safe .
“We are here because we believe in this country and I assure you we are committed to building a new Nigeria for everyone. We are committed to lifting the poor out of poverty. A country like Yobe has the potential to help us fight poverty. Yobe is bigger than Belgium and The Gambia united as a country. Judging by the population of these countries, Yobe has more land for agriculture. We will bring Yobe people back to agriculture by investing. There are many things produced in this country that the world is looking for. We will ensure if the citizens get a fortune from it.
“The youths who commit crimes because the government never cares about them, I assure the Lord that we will take care of them. We will not rule from Abuja. We will come here. The current Nigerian government does not care about the general public .
“Now we have millions of children who are out of school and many are enrolled Yobe State. These are intelligent children because I will discuss with them, they have studied the Quran. But he said that children who do not go to school. I want to meet them at the point where they study the Quran and teach them skills, support them so they can start a business. That’s what we bring.
“Your Excellency, we want to use you as a point of contact for the whole country and the people here. We don’t want to take you out of your house with the pain associated with Nigeria today.
“This election should not be based on ethnicity, tribe or religion because everyone is suffering today no matter what tribe or religion you are. It should not be anyone’s turn. It is Nigeria’s turn to take back the country. What Datti and I represent is character. We want elections this is character. Character that Nigerians can trust. What we say is what we will do.
“We must stop corruption. The theft of public money must stop. We want this election to be based on trust. Datti and I are tested characters. We have made wealth as businessmen. As governor, I left money that no governor in Nigeria has. We want to do the same thing by creating wealth for the people.

“Ler has all the land for agriculture. We will use it to overcome insecurity by investing in agriculture. Of all the presidential candidates, we are the ones who were born after Nigeria’s Independence. It has never happened before. Because we want to build a new Nigeria. Look other parties. This is the Youth and Women government. We urge all Youths that this is your government and you must work hard to implement it. A new Nigeria is possible. We want a new Nigeria from production to consumption. Thank you, Mr. Obi.
