Labor Party President flag bearer Peter Obi has paid tribute to former Commonwealth of Nations Secretary General Emeka Anyaoku on his 90th birthday.
Obi who in a personally signed statement described Anyaoku’s 90th birthday as a landmark, said it was a joyous moment to join his family, supporters, as well as national and international friends in celebrating his 90th birthday on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.
“I recall with great joy, your long service to Nigeria and the international community which you performed with the utmost commitment and patriotism.
“As the Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Nations, you present the image and identity of a true Nigerian, who strives for good governance and the promotion of democracy throughout the Commonwealth and the world at large.
“I also remember how you fought so hard for the return of democracy in Nigeria in 1999 and for the military to oust the government, using your position as the influential Secretary General of the British Commonwealth. Nigeria owes you a debt of gratitude.
According to him, he has no doubt that Nigeria still needs his invaluable experience and contribution to navigate the upcoming elections and other governance issues challenging the country.
“Once again, welcome to this exciting event. My prayer is that God Almighty will always grant me health, vitality and strength in the years to come.”
