The presidential candidate of the Labor Party (LP) Mr. Peter Obi has appealed to the banks to speed up their actions to reduce the pain and discomfort of small and unbanked depositors now going through.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by the media team of the Labor Party Presidential Campaign Council, Obi threw his weight behind the redesign of the currency, saying the exercise has long-term economic benefits.
“Although there are improvements that can be made, I urge Nigerians to bear with the CBN and the Federal Government in the hope that Nigeria will reap the benefits that the reforms will bring,” he said.
According to Obi, the redesign of the currency is not peculiar to Nigeria. It is a sport that involves some discomfort and pain, but has significant long-term economic and social benefits.
Obi urged the CBN and banks to speed up action to make the new naira available to small and unbanked depositors to reduce the pain of Nigerians, especially in rural areas, going through.
