Nigerian human rights activist and popular supporter of Labor Party (LP), Aisha Yesufu, disagreed with the LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on the support for the party’s gubernatorial candidate in Enugu StateChijioke Edeoga, before the March 18 election.
Mr. Obi has been verified Twitter handle encouraging supporters to vote for all LP candidates during the upcoming gubernatorial and state Assembly elections.
“As we pursue the process and postpone the rule of law, I call on all Obidients in various states to continue campaigning for our candidates, namely, Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour in Lagos, Chijioke Edeoga in Enugu, Patrick Dakum in Plateau, Alex Otti in Abia, Ken Pela in the Delta,” he posted on the microblogging website on Wednesday.
LP candidate says he is canceling “whistle-stop campaign” scheduled for all LP candidates in gubernatorial and state assembly elections due to legal battle with Independent National Electoral Commission.
However, Mrs. Yesufu, in the post counter in her verified Twitter handle On Wednesday, he did not agree with the LP candidate in the choice of Mr. Edeoga.
“God forbid I become what I want to be. I will never sacrifice competence for partisanship!” he said in apparent rejection of Mr. Edeoga’s candidacy.
Human rights activists even expressed support for All Progressives Grand Alliance governorship candidate in Enugu State, Frank Nweke.
“Frank Nweke Jnr @FrankNwekeII is the man for Enugu State. The people should be winners not individuals,” he said.


Mrs. Yesufu has been actively involved in Mr. Obi’s campaign and has repeatedly voiced her support for the presidential ambitions of the LP candidate.
The Peter Obi Effect
Meanwhile, in various states in Nigeria, especially in southern Nigeria, the LP won some Senate and some House of Representatives seats – defeating the candidates of the ruling political party in the country.
In Enugu State, for example, the LP won seven of the eight House of Representatives seats in the state. The party also won one of the two senatorial elections in the country.
Enugu is believed to be a stronghold in People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the ruling party in the country.

The PDP has won all the elections in the country since the return of democracy in 1999.
The victories recorded by the LP across the country and some parts of Nigeria have been attributed to Mr. Obi’s “effect”, which has garnered him support in the South-East and other parts of Nigeria.
