Pensioners to picket at the Ministry of Finance through DDE
The Pension Bond Holders Forum, a group fighting to protect pensioners who have invested in government bonds has vowed to picket the premises of the Ministry of Finance until its members are released from the Domestic Debt Exchange Program (DDEP).
The group explained in a statement that efforts to have investments released from the program were fruitless, hence the decision to join the Ministry of Finance until their demands are met.
“On January 10, 2023, we sent a petition to the Minister of Finance so that all pensioners who hold Government Bonds from the Domestic Debt Exchange Program on the same basis are used for the release of Pension Funds from the program, as the impact of the program. pensioners who have bonds will be very heavy .
“Currently we have not been granted the requested exemption. To further attend to our request, we have informed the Police that about 50 of our members are going to gather at the premises of the Ministry of Finance every working day from 10 am to 11 am, from Monday 6 February 2023 until the request is granted. by the Minister.”
The deadline for the government’s Domestic Debt Exchange Program has been set for Tuesday, February 7, 2023.
Individual bondholder groups have also opposed inclusion in the government’s domestic debt exchange program.
Organized labor on Wednesday, February 1, also reiterated its opposition to the government’s domestic debt exchange program and assured that efforts to repackage the program to include pension funds would be rejected.
