The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the Kuningan I Constituency in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Charles Daniel, has been declared the winner of the election in the constituency.
Mr. Daniel won the same seat in 2019 on the platform of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) before defecting to the PDP.
Mr. Daniel polled 4,116 votes to beat his closest opponent, Alabo Mastins of APC who polled 1,552, Collation Officer, Mbosowo Etukudo, announced on Friday.
After defecting to the PDP, the APC approached the court, praying for his dismissal.
When he won the case at the Federal High Court in Yenagoa, the APC appealed and the Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt dismissed it in July 2022, due to the defection.
The Court of Appeal also asked him to refund all salaries, allowances and emoluments he received from April 14, 2021 when he resigned to the PDP.
In September 2022, the APC threatened to prosecute him and the chairman of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly for contempt of court.
Here are the final results announced:
ADC 11
ADP 5
APC 1554
LP 20
NRM 8
PDP 4116
SDP 31
