A senator serving on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Uche Ekwunife, refused to support it Peter Obithe Labor Party’s presidential candidate for the February 25 election.
Mrs. Ekwunife, who currently represents Anambra Central Senatorial District, said an online blog that she did not mention has circulated an article that she has endorsed Mr. Obi for the presidency.
Both Mrs. Ekwunife and Mr. Obi hail from Anambra State and have had strong political ties in the past until the former defected from the PDP to the Labor Party in 2022 to pursue his presidential ambitions.
He campaigned for Mr. Obi, a former two-term governor of Anambra State when he was the vice-presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2019 election where he and the presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, lost to the incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari.
Mrs Ekwunifie, a former member of the House of Representatives, is seeking re-election as a senator for Anambra Central on the PDP ticket.
I do not approve of Obi – Ekwunife
In a statement she personally signed and made available to journalists on Saturday, Mrs Ekwunife denied the endorsement, saying it did not come from her.
He also said that the online blog made a statement that could be translated as adopting Mr. Obi as his candidate for the election.
“I want to state unequivocally that these statements never came from me or the campaign board,” he said.

Although he said that Mr. Obi is a respected and respected leader and brother of Anambra Central, he noted that his political aspirations have become different, “I must focus on delivering our Presidential Candidate, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, and Vice Presidential Candidate, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, who is a member of the PDP.

He reiterated his commitment to the PDP, saying he cannot fight the party or any other candidate running on the party’s platform in the 2023 election.
Mrs. Ekwunife, however, said “Mr. Obi will no doubt be a force to be reckoned with in the February 25 election. However, he will not be able to get the necessary support that will secure his victory unlike His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar, who has everything he needs to win the election with a high margin.

He reiterated his unalloyed support for Atiku’s ambitions, urging the people of Anambra Central and Nigerians to key into the project, rescue Nigeria and set the country on the road to greatness.
