Labor Party (LP) gubernatorial candidate in Abia State, Alex Oti, It has been alleged that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state is trying to use the results of the Obingwa Local Government Area to upturn over 90,000 votes between the two parties.
Mr. Otti, during a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, said he got over 171,000 votes from the 16 local governments currently declared by INEC, with Okey Ahiwe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) about 80,000.
He claimed that the INEC leadership in Obingwa local government was forced to sign the results by force. He, therefore, urged INEC not to accept results inconsistent with the data in the BVAS.
“The votes the Labor Party received from the 16 local governments is over 171,000 and the PDP is less than 80,000. So, you roll the dice.
“Even the numbers that have been written do not have the support of the law, and cannot torpedo our victory. It is also important to say that, we believe that INEC will do the right thing,” he said.
Mr. Otti said the introduction of the BVAS machine has demystified the voting power of Obingwa Local government and some others in the country.
“What is happening this time, is that BVAS has eliminated the local government of Obingwa in Abia state.
“You will recall that in 2015 when I contested for the first time, it produced 82,000 votes from Obingwa to raise the victory given to Abia people.
“This time, they want to do the same thing but BVAS has proven that it is not more than 30,000 votes. This is what we also proved in 2015 that made us win at the Court of Appeal,” said the LP candidate.
Mr. Otti also disclosed that there are ongoing deliberations at the INEC Headquarters in Abuja between the top hierarchy of INEC and the staff monitoring the elections in Abia State.
He expressed optimism that INEC would declare him the winner of the election.
“All the other local governments that have been announced to use the BVAS machine for accreditation, we are confident that INEC will not change the rules in the middle of the race.
“I would like to use this opportunity to call on the people of Abia to remain peaceful and calm,” he said.
