PDP, APC candidates withdraw from Akwa Ibom governorship debate

The candidate for governor from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Umo Eno, and his partner in All Progressive Congress (APC), Akanimo Udofia, has withdrawn his participation in political debate for the upcoming elections in the country.

Debate, which is organized by Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, currently in Uyo.

The chairman of the committee, Aniekan Udofia, told the audience that the two candidates, Messrs. Eno and Udofia, had withdrawn from the debate.

“This morning, after the firm confirmation of the PDP governorship candidate, Pastor Umo Eno, we received a letter addressed to the NUJ chairman stating that he is withdrawing from the debate,” Mr. Udofia said.

“Again, this evening, while we are also preparing for the debate, the committee has met with the APC governorship candidate, Obong Akan Udofia, and said that he is unwell and unwell, so he will not participate in the debate. “

The five candidates who participated in the debate were John Akpanudoehehe of the New Nigerian Peoples Party; Iboro Otu, African Action Congress; Ezekiel Nya-Etok, African Democratic Congress; Ekere Essien, Action Democratic Party; and Bassey Albert, Young Progressive Party, who joined via zoom.

The chairman of NUJ in Akwa Ibom, Amos Etuk, said in his opening speech that the debate was a “historic night” in the 35-year-old state.

He thanked the candidates for participating, saying the debate would help Akwa Ibom people make the right choice.

“The Nigerian media, especially in Akwa Ibom State, will continue to set the agenda for good governance and government accountability,” Mr. Etuk said.
