MANILA, Philippines – Coach Tim Cone gave Ginebra a simple reminder ahead of Sunday’s game against Converge: “Keep laughing.”
The Gin Kings did just that en route to a 120-101 blowout of the FiberXers at the PhilSports Arena.
“Before the game, we talked about the importance of this game. Coaches now have a saying, ‘keep chucking,'” said swingman Jamie Malonzo, who led the way for Ginebra.
“We’ve had a lot of games and we want to ‘keep chucking,’ keep going and finish in the best possible way.”
Malonzo scored a career-high 29 points with eight rebounds, five assists and a steal.
It seems that Cone’s challenge also reached the Ginebra tower as Justin Brownlee and Christian Stanhardinger finished with doubles.
Brownlee finished the game with 28 points and 10 rebounds while Stanhardinger also had 28 points and 12 rebounds.
Cone continues to urge his ward to do the same, especially now that they are in the playoffs.
“We’re going to keep chucking, no matter what happens, we’re going to keep going,” Cone said.
Ginebra plays Phoenix next before entering the All-Star break, where Malonzo’s high-flying skills will be on display in the slam dunk contest.
“I’m more of a dunker in the game but I’ll give the fans what they want, I’ll try my best,” Malonzo said.
