MANILA, Philippines-San Miguel Beer registered another lopsided result in the PBA Governors’ Cup after ensuring Blackwater would not produce another upset with a 105-86 win on Wednesday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Five players led by Jericho Cruz and import Cameron Clark scored in double figures as the Beermen scored in the first half to go 2-0 in the final conference of the season under new coach Jorge Galent.
“We played well because they defended well,” said Galent, whose team defeated Phoenix 114-93 three nights ago to open the campaign. “I think our offense stepped up because of our defense.”
Cruz came off the bench to score 22 points while Clark had 14 of his 20 points in the first half that put the Beermen up by 30 before entering the locker room with a 63-38 lead.
June Mar Fajardo added 17 points, including a rare three-pointer, while grabbing 16 rebounds and handing out four assists for the Beermen.
Blackwater fell to 1-2 as they couldn’t pull off a shock victory over previously unbeaten Meralco at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
Import Shawn Glover posted 16 points and 12 rebounds, but the key players from the Bossing game ended up struggling.
One of them was Baser Amer who was held to just four points on 2-of-6 shooting.
