MANILA, Philippines–San Miguel Beer heads into a pair of big games this weekend after defeating NorthPort, 145-132, in a high-scoring PBA Governor’s Cup game on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Hitting 65 percent shooting and 46 assists, the Beermen kept the Batang Pier winless while redeeming themselves from a loss to the Converge FiberXers that ended their 5-0 start.

However, Gallent was not satisfied with the overall performance that saw San Miguel tie TNT at the top of the standings with the same score of 6-1.

“We dished out 46 assists, but our defense was terrible,” Galent said.

The win comes before the Beermen face heavyweights Barangay Ginebra on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum and Tropang Giga on Saturday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

Import Cameron Clark, perhaps one of the many imports that performed well in this conference, put up 44 points, nine rebounds and seven assists for the Beermen.

June Mar Fajardo bounced back from a loss against Converge and registered 29 points and 12 assists while Simon Enciso had a career-high 13 assists.

NorthPort remained the only winless team in the conference last season after losing its sixth straight.

Import Kevin Murphy, who played for the Beermen in the 2018 Commissioner’s Cup, scored 39 points for Batang Pier.
