MANILA, Philippines – An overwhelming outpouring of support poured in for Ginebra guard LA Tenorio after he announced his battle with Stage 3 colon cancer on Tuesday.
Celebrities, public figures, basketball personalities and fans took to social media for a rally behind the PBA legend, who revealed the reason for his complete absence in a statement posted on the PBA website.
The official Instagram of the Fiba Asia Cup even posted a sincere hope for the recovery of Gilas Pilipinas: “Prayers for local legends.”
Tenorio’s former national teammates also paid tribute to the veteran campaigner and prayed after the surprise announcement.
“Just pray, yes! You still? [Ang] You’re a strong man, an Ironman, right? Here is the toll road. Lots of love and prayers for you! See you at the PBA match,” said Pingris.
(Keep praying, bro. You can do it! You’re a strong man, that’s why they call you Ironman. We’re just here for you. A lot of people love you and are praying for you. See you at PBA.)
Andray Blatche, a naturalized player that Gilas had when Tenorio was still wearing the colors of the national team, also wishes the veteran playmaker a speedy recovery.
“Waiting for you in my prayers, honey. Get well soon.”
Jimmy Alapag, Tenorio’s backcourt tandem in Gilas, also took to Instagram to remember his fellow veteran point guard and fight together wearing the Philippine jersey.
“Praying for you my Brother,” said Alapag.

Tenorio also loves him competing in the PBA, where he has made a name for himself as the “Iron Man” for playing a league record 744 consecutive games.
San Miguel’s Chris Ross, who has been in several down-to-earth matches with Tenorio’s Gin Kings, gave Tenorio a heartfelt message on Twitter.
“Pray for you, brother! I know you get this! You are a warrior, brother!” tweeted Ross, who has been Tenorio’s job in the backcourt for the longest time. “We’re all in your corner!”

Rain or Shine veteran Gabe Norwood, also took a moment to urge his followers and supporters to “pray for his brother.”
TNT’s Matt Ganuelas-Rosser expressed optimism with his message for Tenorio, saying he can overcome adversity because he is “Ironman for a reason.”
NCAA coach Charles Tiu took a small measure of appreciation for the PBA veteran after the devastating news. “That [a] really terrible and painful news to hear. Get well soon brother LA, rooting for you! Pray.”

Tenorio is getting love not only from the league, but outside as well as basketball fans and spectators are flooding social media sites with messages for the basketball star.
Senator Sonny Angara, chairman of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, also gave “Lieutenant” some words of encouragement.
“Just fight Lieutenant! Prayers for your recovery.”
Tenorio, who has been sidelined in Ginebra due to a groin injury that ended his streak, announced that he has undergone cancer-related surgery with more treatment to come in the next few months.
