MANILA, Philippines-Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao referred to the legendary Nora Aunor after his hopes of pulling off the impossible vanished when the team lost in the PBA Governors’ Cup.

“Walang himala (No miracle),” Guiao said Sunday as the Elasto Painters lost 116-108 at the hands of Barangay Ginebra at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Guiao even tried to imitate the voice of the legendary actress, prompting more laughter from the scribes who waited for the veteran mentor to come out of the dressing room after Rain or Shine dropped to 0-4.

But Rain or Shine gave them a chance to produce an improbable victory when they led for several parts of the second half until Ginebra showed their class.

The exhibition is a consolation for Guiao and Elasto Painters, who now have to change something.

Rey Nambatac, Santi Santillan and even veterans James Yap and Beau Belga were among those who produced steady games throughout the contest, but it was not enough to stop Rain or Shine without a win in this third conference.

“It’s frustrating, but it’s a better performance than the previous game. At least we can give Ginebra a good fight,” Guiao said.

“But in the fourth quarter, it was really Ginebra’s experience and ability to finish and close the game, which we don’t have now,” he said.
