MANILA, Philippines–NLEX swept a two-game sweep on Saturday night after defeating Converge, 116-112, in the PBA Governor’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.

Kevin Alas matched the best outing of his career with 31 points while import Wayne Selden Jr. made a two-way star outing of 35 points and eight steals for the Road Warriors to remain in the top half of the round.

“He showed tremendous effort, but we have Kevin Alas,” coach Frankie Lim said of the captain. “It’s a good win for us. We’re 5-2 but we need to win more.

Kris Rosales, Tony Semerad and Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser all finished in double figures to help the FiberXers to their second loss of the tournament and an even win-loss record.

Converge in early control and kept the game interesting until the last minute behind the big night of import Jamaal Franklin, who finished with 53 points and 11 rebounds.

Maverick Ahanmisi, who owns the conference, finished with 22 points in the loss.

“Enough credit to the coaching system (Frankie). Everyone stepped up today and this is our first victory with Wayne. We are motivated to give him the first victory,” said Alas about the club’s import, who replaced Jonathon Simmons two meetings ago.

NLEX hopes to defeat Meralco in the second header at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Converge, meanwhile, tried to get back on track while in the tackles Blackwater in the nightcap.
