MANILA, Philippines—Jericho Cruz dominated San Miguel against Blackwater on Wednesday after the opening game in the PBA Governor’s Cup three days ago.
Cruz led all scorers in the Beermen’s 105-86 win over Bossing with 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field after scoring just two points in last Sunday’s win over Phoenix in Antipolo.
The veteran guard attributed the game back to his coach.
“Of course, the coaching staff [gets credit] because they gave me confidence. In our first game, I had a bad outing. All I did was go back to the drawing board,” Cruz said.
“I told myself, I’ll be back in the next game,” he said.
Cruz hit three of four attempts from long range and also had three rebounds and three assists in 27 minutes off the bench.
“The players played well, they defended well, so I think our offense improved as well. It’s because of their defense,” said SMB coach Jorge Galent
Cruz, 32, also made an impact on the defensive end where he helped limit Ato Ular to just six points on 3-of-9 shooting from the field. The Snakes are coming off a 14-point, 11-rebound effort in a win over Phoenix last Saturday.
Despite another lopsided victory for the second game in a row, San Miguel again saw a 30-point lead significantly reduced-something that also happened in the previous game against Phoenix.
